Helping Your Child Through Pet Loss — 12-Minute Comfort Audio for Children & Families
When your child is missing their pet and you don’t know what to say, sometimes they simply need a gentle voice to sit with them in the sadness.
The death of a beloved pet can bring questions, guilt, confusion, anger, tears—and sometimes feelings a child doesn’t know how to put into words.
Helping Your Child Through Pet Loss is a gentle 12-minute comfort audio created specifically for children and families grieving the death of a pet.
Narrated by Tracy Lynn, this audio speaks directly to your child in simple, age-appropriate language without talking down to them or telling them how they’re supposed to feel.
Whenever possible, a parent, caregiver, or trusted adult is encouraged to listen alongside the child.
DURING THIS 12-MINUTE AUDIO, YOUR CHILD WILL BE GENTLY GUIDED TO:
• Remember their pet as they lived, rather than focusing only on the day they died
• Think about ordinary moments, funny memories, favorite routines, and the little things that made their pet special
• Say or quietly think about their pet’s name
• Understand that sadness, anger, confusion—and even having a perfectly good day—can all happen after a loss
• Hear reassurance about common feelings of guilt and understand that an angry thought, forgotten chore, or imperfect moment did not cause their pet to die
• Remember the many everyday ways they showed their pet love
• Explore questions about where their pet is now without being told what they must believe
• Understand that laughing, playing, and enjoying life does not mean they are forgetting their pet
• Find ways to keep their pet’s stories and memories part of their life
THIS IS NOT A TRADITIONAL MEDITATION
Your child will not be told to close their eyes, control their breathing, clear their mind, or force themselves to imagine something they aren’t ready to revisit.
There is no requirement to feel better by the end.
This is simply a quiet place for a child—and the grown-up who loves them—to remember a very important animal together.
Because your pet’s life was bigger than the day you lost them.
There were all those days they lived.
The funny days. The ordinary days. The cuddles, sounds, routines, favorite places, favorite treats, and stories that belonged only to your family.
Those are worth remembering too.
FOR EVERY KIND OF PET & EVERY KIND OF FAMILY
Whether your child loved a dog, cat, bird, rabbit, hamster, guinea pig, horse, reptile, fish, or another beloved animal, this audio focuses on what truly matters:
the relationship.
It does not promote a particular religious belief about death or the afterlife. Children are gently encouraged to bring those questions to the adults they trust and to the beliefs their own family holds.
A NOTE FOR PARENTS & CAREGIVERS
This audio is intended as a supportive grief resource and is not a substitute for professional medical, psychological, or mental health care.
Children experience grief differently. If you’re concerned about your child’s emotional well-being, behavior, safety, or ability to function after a loss, please speak with their pediatrician or a qualified child mental health professional.
